Well, if you register a domain name, there are several things you could do with it.
If you want a web presence (website), you would want to get a "web hosting" package.
However, not everybody wants a website, or at least is ready for it at the moment. For those in this latter category, they can use their domain name for email only.
Thus for instance, if you register "www.myvillage.com.ng" you can tell your friends to start reaching you via "myname@myvillage.com.ng" Pretty cool, no?
